The move signals the administration’s strong commitment to modern infrastructure, economic growth, and positioning Enugu as a major transport and investment hub in the South-East.

₦10bn Earmarked for 135.4km Rail Line:

According to the state government, the ₦10 billion allocation represents Enugu State’s equity contribution for Phase 1 of the proposed standard-gauge rail line. The project is designed to improve mobility within the state while also strengthening connectivity with neighbouring states.

The rail initiative forms part of Governor Mbah’s broader multimodal transport vision, which integrates rail, road, aviation, and other transit systems to reduce travel time, boost trade, and support industrial expansion.

Once completed, the rail line is expected to:

  • Ease movement of people and goods.
  • Reduce pressure on road networks.
  • Lower transportation costs.
  • Stimulate commercial and industrial activities across Enugu State.
Enugu Air to Receive 14 Additional Aircraft:

In a parallel push to strengthen air transport, the governor has also approved plans to expand the fleet of Enugu Air by 14 aircraft, bringing the airline’s projected fleet size to 20 planes.

Enugu Air, which was launched as part of the state’s aviation development strategy, is expected to enhance:
  1. Regional and national connectivity.
  2. Passenger convenience.
  3. Business and tourism travel into Enugu.
The expansion aligns with the administration’s goal of making Enugu a preferred destination for investors, tourists, and businesses.

Beyond rail and airline expansion, the state government is also making strategic investments in airport infrastructure and transport-related industries. These initiatives are aimed at job creation, youth empowerment, and strengthening Enugu’s role as a logistics and commercial centre.

Governor Mbah has consistently emphasized that modern infrastructure is the foundation of sustainable economic growth, noting that improved transportation directly impacts productivity, security, and quality of life.
